Returning to Seattle after a six month absence I found many changes: all the
new buildings and construction frenzy, the seemingly boundless new prosperity
and particularly the frantic spending spree Seattle is reveling in.
Such
affluence of riches must generate an interesting affluence of waste. I started
rummaging around to see what "Seattle Basura" woudl be...Compared to Mexico
where old parts and bits and pieces of radio, television and car are saved and
sold to repair and rebuild, finding quasi new computers and other electronic
equipment thrown away ...was Basura beyond my wildest dreams: "high tech
basura"!
I started by "redoing" the pieces I had done in SMA with the newfound "high
tech basura" in Seattle. I thought it would be an interesting exercise in
rethinking the work. It was. The repeated pieces are visually different and have
led me to further aspects and ideas.
I started with the "Hommage a ..." ,
"The Two Faces of Eve" and the "Shoe Fetish" series in Mexico, along with
other "frames". In Seattle, I continued with more of the "Hommage a..."
series and then started three new series of works:
The "Voyeur", "Pandora's
Box" and "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...."series.
What I have seen and put into my "frames" could be as different as night and day to you, the viewer. Great! I would love to know your interpretation of the "frames" and the story they convey to you. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
